Best Hair Color Bomb (2023) – 12 Hair Treatment With Color For Hair Coloring

What is a hair color bomb?

A colour bomb is also called a colour treatment and is colour and hair care combined in one product. The colour in a colour bomb is a semi-permanent colour. It contains colour pigments that fade out of the hair as you wash it.

A colour bomb is not recommended for colour changing as it does not contain a high enough concentration of colour pigment for this, on the other hand it is unbeatable when it comes to refreshing the colour of your hair.

If you dye your hair, then you’re probably also familiar with the fact that after a while, the colour loses strength and starts to look a little dull. This is where the colour bomb is great for going in as a colour refresher and giving the colour depth and play again.

If you don’t dye your hair but would like your own hair colour to have more shine and gloss, then you’ll also get really good results with a colour bomb that matches your hair colour.

Colour bombs come in a wide range of colours. There are “natural” colours like black, brown, auburn and blonde, but there are also colour bombs in bright colours like green, turquoise, purple, pink and postbox red. However, these require you to bleach your hair first, as they only work on hair where the pigment has already been drawn out.

Refresh the colour of your hair with a colour bomb

No matter how well you care for your hair, there’s no avoiding the fact that coloured hair fades over time. If you want to avoid visiting your hairdresser too often, you can refresh your hair colour yourself at home with amazing results.

A colour bomb contains a combination of conditioning agents that care for your hair and bring it back to life, as well as a host of microscopic colour pigments that give your hair a boost of colour.

Whether you have black hair, red hair, hair in brownish or blonde shades you can find a colour bomb that matches your hair colour and can intensify your hair colour for you.

A colour bomb is not a permanent colour and therefore not suitable for colour changing BUT if you have completely light blonde hair then you can freely choose from any colour as the completely light hair will accept the colour.

How long does the effect of a colour bomb last?

A colour bomb is a semi-permanent colour, i.e. a colour that gradually fades out of your hair when you wash it. The effect of a colour bomb is therefore strong for the first few washes and will then lose its strength.

How long the colour bomb lasts in your hair depends on several things:

  • How easily your hair absorbs the color
  • How often you wash your hair
  • How worn your hair is
  • How well you care for your hair
  • What colour bomb you use (the bang colours wash out fastest)

However, you can expect to have a good effect from a hair colour bomb for 2 to 3 weeks if you only wash your hair the recommended 2 – 3 times a week. The more often you wash your hair the faster the colour will fade.

For a more intense colour, leave the colour bomb on for a few extra minutes. (However, it is not recommended to use the colour bomb on blonde hair as it may soak up the purple)

Delay hairdresser time with a colour bomb

Visiting the hairdresser is usually not cheap and if you need a colour treatment, you can easily spend 2 – 3 hours in the hairdresser’s chair if not more.

That’s why more and more people have also got their eyes on products like toning colour, hair colour mousse, hair colour spray, rinse colour and colour bombs. None of these are hair colouring products that provide a permanent colouring, but a colour that is washed out of the hair over the course of one or more hair washes, depending on the product.

If you want to have as long-lasting a result as possible, so you don’t have to repeat the treatment every week or more, then I would recommend opting for a colour bomb.

A colour bomb won’t go in and make a drastic colour difference to your grow-out (unless it’s completely light blonde) but it will go in and make the coloured lengths of your hair look like you’ve just stepped out of the hairdresser’s. It intensifies the colour, makes the colour brighter and, not least, gives the hair plenty of shine and moisture which is what every coloured hair craves.

Adjust the shade of your hair with a colour bomb

Although a colour bomb isn’t a permanent hair colour, you can get really good results if you want to adjust the shades of your hair colour without having to make a trip to the hairdresser.

For example, if you have dark hair but are dreaming of a slightly warmer glow in your hair, you can achieve a really great look by using a reddish or chestnut brown colour bomb.

You will also be able to make your hair a few shades darker. This can look really good on otherwise dull liver hair. The possibilities are almost endless and the cool thing is that the colour washes out again.

Remove the yellowish tones in blonde hair with a colour bomb

If you’re blonde, light blonde, ash blonde or platinum blonde, either as a result of a haircut or because you’re a natural blonde, then like many blondes you probably struggle with yellow tones in blonde hair.

There are several ways to remove yellowish tones in blonde hair. You can choose to use a silver shampoo, a violet rinse-off colour or what I would recommend – a colour bomb.

When I prefer a colour bomb to remove yellowish tones in blonde hair over the other solutions, it’s because products like a silver shampoo can be really drying for the hair.

If you use a colour bomb, you get both the concentrated effect of the silver shampoo but also a really intense hair treatment that counteracts the damage the colour causes to the hair. At the same time, a colour bomb works on blonde hair for several weeks without you having to worry about yellow shades. And your hair got a shine cure, so it looks healthy and delicious.

Use colour bombs in crazy colours or pastels when you want your hair to be anything but boring

There are no rules these days when it comes to hair colour – anything goes. That’s why crazy colour bombs and pastel colour bombs have become super popular.

Some people dye their entire hair one colour, it could be a post-box red. Others choose to colour only individual sections of the hair. For example, the locks of hair that frame the face.

But you can also create cool mermaid hair looks with color bombs in crazy colors and pastels. The only limit is your imagination.

Can everyone use colour bombs in pastel and crazy colours?

The short and correct answer is No! In order to get the full effect of pastel colour bombs or crazy colour bombs, you need to have completely light/white hair by nature or you need to have bleached your hair first. Your hair must not contain any pigment or this type of colour bomb will not work.

On the other hand, if you have completely light hair or have lightened your hair first, you can get a penetrating and really vibrant colour with a colour bomb in crazy colours. The same goes for pastel colours, which really come into their own on completely light hair.

If you’re blonde or bleached light, colour bombs are a great way to play with new looks. Be brave and try something new – if you don’t like it, you can quickly wash the colour out of your hair and try a new one. But if you look at the colour spectrum of colour bombs, it’s hard to find a colour that isn’t super bold.

Guide – How to use a hair colour bomb

If you want to refresh the colour of your hair or remove yellowish tones in blonde hair while conditioning your hair, a colour bomb is the way to go. A colour bomb is not a permanent colour. So it’s not suitable for colour changes, but it’s super good when you want to give your hair colour depth and extra shine.

Working time varies slightly from product to product but the procedure is the same. This is a product that is super easy to apply and where you don’t have to worry about a uniform result.

Wash your hair – but don’t condition

When it’s time to use a colour bomb, start by washing your hair thoroughly to remove any built-up hair products and oils. You can do this by washing your hair twice.

It’s important NOT to use conditioner on your hair after you’ve finished shampooing.

The conditioner will build up on the hair strands and prevent the colour bomb from working optimally. You should also not use a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner.

Dry your hair in a towel

Once your hair is clean, you should have wrung as much water as possible out of your hair. Your hair should be towel dry. Before you go ahead and use the colour bomb.

If your hair is too wet, the dye bomb will be difficult to control and you risk it running and messing up your skin and clothes.

Divide your hair into sections

If you have long hair, it can be a great advantage to divide your hair into sections before you start the colour bomb. That way you can be sure the colour bomb will be evenly distributed throughout your hair.

I like to divide my hair into a middle part, which I then divide into 2 sections, so I have 4 sections in total.

Distribute the colour bomb in the hair

When you distribute the color bomb in your hair, it’s hard to advise you on what amount of product to use. It all depends on the length of your hair and how thick it is.

Apply enough product to cover your hair properly from root to tip. And better too much than too little.

Pull time

It is important that you read the instructions for use of the dye bomb that you have chosen and follow the instructions when it comes to the soak time. For most dye bombs, this is around 5 minutes.

The longer the colour bomb stays in your hair, the stronger the result will be. However, if you use a colour bomb for platinum blonde/blonde hair, be aware that it contains many purple colour pigments, which can give your hair a purple tint if you exceed the pulling time.

Remember to use gloves – A dye bomb is not harmful to your skin, but it can be highly staining. I would therefore always recommend that you use a pair of latex gloves when applying the dye bomb. Also make sure to clean your hairline and ears.
